You Can Always Learn Something New: Keys to Living with Intentionality

Out the door and on the go. Coffee in hand and on the way to drop the kids off to school and then straight into a morning meeting. Yes “life is lifeing” and the clock is ticking us all right into another day and if we are not conscious and intentional we can easily experience the very same routine day to day, week to week and before we know it year after year.

This is the truth, you can always learn something new. The problem is rarely a lack of information or access — we live in the most resource-rich era in human history. The real issue is intentionality. When we decide to live with intentionality, we take responsibility for the work required to grow and change, so we can step into who God has called us to be.

And here’s the beautiful thing about learning: it’s an act of stewardship. I’m not trying to guilt you in any way, very mush the opposite, I want to encourage you and tell you that you can become everything that God says you already are in Him! When you understand that God has deposited gifts, callings, and wisdom inside of you, choosing to grow and develop those things is simply you saying “yes” to what He’s already placed in your hands. Good stewardship isn’t about trying to earn more from God — it’s about honouring what He’s already given you.

Let this truth become an anchor you: your current situation is not your final destination. Scripture reminds us that God has already provided everything we need for life and godliness. As 2 Peter 1:3 declares, “His divine power has given us everything we need for a godly life through our knowledge of him who called us by his own glory and goodness.” You already have everything you need — in Christ.

Upon receiving Jesus Christ, you received the person of grace — the One who enables you to become everything He says you already are. Philippians 2:13 tells us, “For it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose.” Some translations say He gives you both the desire and the power to do what pleases Him.

This means your growth is not merely a matter of willpower. It is a matter of surrender — yielding to the One who lives inside you and who is able to do “exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us” (Ephesians 3:20). It’s not about striving harder in your own strength. It’s about surrendering to His divine ability within you.

You are full of power, full of authority, and full of potential. You are anointed. As 1 John 2:20 says, “But you have an anointing from the Holy One, and all of you know the truth.” The only person who can stop you from walking in this is you.

Here are four practical keys to help you activate — or “upload” — what Christ has already deposited in your spirit:

As you go about your day, stay in a posture of prayer. Paul instructs us in 1 Thessalonians 5:17 to “pray without ceasing.” This isn’t about reciting long prayers — it’s about intentionally making yourself available to God throughout your day, so that creativity and inspiration can flow freely. When you pray without ceasing, you are positioning yourself to be interrupted by God in the best possible way.

If you pray in tongues, this is particularly powerful — but the Spirit is able to pray through you regardless of your spiritual gifts or experiences, as long as you are coming to God with a true heart, willing to receive wisdom and apply it.

Set aside intentional time every day to read the Bible. Jesus said the words He speaks are “spirit and life” (John 6:63). As you consistently feed on the Word, it comes alive inside of you, causing you to grow into the person He says you already are — someone who carries an anointing from the Holy Spirit and who, by that anointing, knows all things (1 John 2:20).

Listen to worship music that keeps you sensitive to the presence of God — who is not only inside you, but around you at all times. Worship cultivates awareness of the Creator who is at work within you. And because you are made in His image, you are creative by nature. When you stay connected to the source, creativity and inspired thought naturally follow.

God has not left you without resources — and that includes the practical tools right in your hands. We live in an era where the tools to capture, organize, and develop ideas are more accessible than ever. Don’t let a great idea slip away because you didn’t capture it.

For example, when an idea for an article or a message comes to me, I always have my smartphone nearby. I pull it out and record a voice memo on the spot. Why? Because I’m a verbal processor — I think out loud. In fact, the bare-bones structure of this very article started as a voice dictation into my notes app. That’s why, if you read it carefully, you’ll notice I often write the way I speak. That’s not an accident — that’s a process. And it works.

You don’t have to be a “writer” to write. You just have to be willing to use what God has put in your hands. Whether it’s voice memos, a notes app, a journal, or even a napkin — capture the download when it comes. The Holy Spirit is speaking. Make sure you’re in a position to receive it and record it.

You don’t have to carve out large blocks of time to keep learning and growing. You can micro-learn throughout your day — in small but intentional batches. Here are some simple ways to do it:

Listen to podcasts, audiobooks, or YouTube videos while you’re commuting, cooking, or even in the shower (leave your phone just outside and let the sound carry in). Redeem the time in your car or on the bus. These pockets of time add up fast, and over weeks and months, you’ll be amazed at how much ground you can cover

Paul encourages us in Ephesians 5:16 to be “making the most of every opportunity.” That’s stewardship in action — not a burden, but a mindset. Every commute, every lunch break, every quiet moment is an opportunity to sow into the person God is growing you into. You’re not behind. You’re not failing. Every small, intentional step is a seed, and seeds always produce a harvest.

The information age is not your problem. Intentionality is your opportunity. You have been given everything you need for life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3). God is actively at work in you — giving you both the will and the power to live out His purposes (Philippians 2:13). You are anointed, empowered, and loved beyond measure.

So be a good steward of that — not out of pressure, but out of gratitude and wonder. Paul prayed in Ephesians 1:17-18 that God would give us “the Spirit of wisdom and revelation” so that we would know “the hope of his calling.” Read that again, God has a hope in your calling! He’s not watching nervously, wondering if you’ll figure it out. He already did the work. Jesus went to the cross, conquered sin and death, and in doing so released you from performance once and for all. He gave you His righteousness as a gift — not something you earn but something you walk in even on your worst day! Your growth isn’t you trying to become worthy. It’s you discovering who you already are in Him.

Think about the parable of the talents in Matthew 25:14-30. The servant who buried what he was given wasn’t motivated by evil — he was motivated by fear. And that’s exactly what the enemy wants: to keep you hiding what God has placed in you. But as Timothy writes “God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and love and a sound mind”. Here is something to consider: when you choose not to grow, not to develop your gifts, not to show up fully as yourself — you’re not just holding something back from yourself. You are depriving the world of the unique expression of Christ that only you carry. Nobody else has your story, your voice, your perspective, your particular combination of gifts. The world needs the Christ in you — expressed through you, in your own irreplaceable way.

That’s not a burden — that’s a calling. And it’s one He has already equipped you for.

Now decide today: your current situation is not your final destination. Adopt the mindset of intentionality, surrender to His divine ability inside of you, and watch Him do exceedingly abundantly above all that you could ask or think (Ephesians 3:20).

You already have everything you need. It’s time to step out courageously and be who you already are in HIM. You’ve got this!
